Trump behauptete, Musk sei wegen der Streichung der E-Auto-Prämie verärgert. Im Jahr 2021 hatte sich Elon Musk in einem Interview mit dem Wall Street Journal gegen staatliche Förderungen von Elektrofahrzeugen als auch Verbrennern ausgesprochen. "Wir brauchen die Prämie von 7.500 Dollar für Elektroautos nicht. Ehrlich gesagt würde ich diesen gesamten Gesetzesentwurf einfach streichen. Verabschieden Sie es nicht, das ist meine Empfehlung", so der Tesla-Chef damals.
