Дословно, слово “mug” обозначает кружку. Однако, в переносном значении выражение приобрело совершенно другое значение и стало обозначать лицо.
Такая необычная связь появилась в Англии 18-го века, где кружки часто изготавливали в виде человеческих голов🍺
Постепенно, люди стали называть лица словом “mug”, особенно когда хотели подчеркнуть непривлекательные черты.
