در روايت ديگری می‌گويند علت نام گذاری بادمجان اين است که اين گياه تا وقتی به دمش وصل باشد می‌تواند تازه باقی بماند و به اصطلاح جان داشته باشد اما به محض کنده شدن دمش، پلاسيده می‌شود.
