Познакомились они на автомойке, где девушка какое-то время работала. После работы Лочинбек подвозил Яну до дома и покупал ей сигареты. Девушку такие отношения тяготили, и она искала себе ровесника. К тому же, у Лочинбека бывали вспышки ревности.
28 февраля 2020 Яна пропала. Её тело обнаружили лишь 20 марта в заснеженном лесу у посёлка Рассоха.
По версии следствия, 28 февраля между Яной и Лочинбеком произошла очередная ссора на почве ревности. В ходе конфликта мужчина нанёс девушке не менее девяти ударов ножом в левое бедро, а после задушил.
