Начну показывать про новогоднюю поездку в Суздаль и Владимир, пока доделываю путеводитель в Нижний Новгород.
Там как раз была выставка, посвященная Борису Кустодиеву «Патриархальная Россия».
Так почему же Федор Иванович был в шубе?

Шикарная бобровая шуба досталась Шаляпину по случаю. Так с ним рассчитались "натурой" за один из данных певцом концертов. Случилось это в 1921 году, когда Фёдор Иванович Шаляпин занимался постановкой в Мариинском театре оперы А. Серова "Вражья сила". Театр, как и в целом Россия переживали не лучшие времена после революции, Гражданской войны, повсеместной разрухи и голода. Театрам с трудом удавалось хоть как-то выживать и такие расчёты с деятелями культуры были не редкостью. Декорации к новой постановке были заказаны другу Шаляпина Борису Кустодиеву. К нему-то и отправился Фёдор Иванович в своей меховой обновке, которую трудно было не заметить. После недолгого диалога вопрос с портретом был решён.
