ایران (دوران پهلوی) بورسیهٔ تحصیلی دریافت کرده‌است و نقطه ی مشترک تمام مخالفان شاهنشاهی #محمدرضاشاه_پهلوی این خصیصه بود. وی نیز از معدود مخالفان #انقلاب_سفید بود! وی در سال ۱۳۴۰ به همراه محمود طالقانی و یدالله سحابی، نهضت آزادی ایران را پایه‌گذاری کرد که بعدها این نهضت بسیار مصدق او را به سمت رئیس هیئت مدیره خلع ید از شرکت نفت ایران و انگلیس به آبادان منصوب کرد تا این تأسیسات را در کنترل بگیرد. بازرگان بعد از مدتی به دلیل اختلافاتی که با حسین مکی داشت، استعفا کرد.پس از آن ریاست شرکت آب و فاضلاب تهران را بر عهده گرفت و و موفق شد نخستین شبکه لوله👇
