17 октября 1938 г. учреждена первая советская медаль – «За отвагу».
Шести медалей «За отвагу» удостоен лишь один человек – санинструктор Семен Грецов. Вынес с поля боя только с оружием 130 раненых. Его 6 медалей бережно хранятся в музее г.Старый Оскол.
В 2025 г. С.Грецову на доме, где он жил, при участии РВИО установлена мемориальная доска
17 октября 1941 г. экипаж танка Т-34 мл. л-та Степана Горобца промчался через весь захваченный немцами Калинин (Тверь), давя фашистов и разя их огнем.
Маршрут бесстрашных: путь советского танка по оккупированному Калинину, проложенный на карте современной Твери.
С.Горобец погиб в бою подо Ржевом в 1942 г. В 2011 г. в Твери установлен памятник легендарному экипажу
