6 декабря 1909 года в Саратове состоялось торжественное открытие университета, получившего имя Императорского Николаевского. Саратовская городская дума выделила для этого 1 млн рублей и территорию на Московской площади.
Первым ректором открытого с большой помпой высшего учебного заведения стал известный учёный, врач и общественный деятель Василий Иванович Разумовский. С октября 1923 года университет носит имя Н.Г.Чернышевского.
На примере Саратовского государственного университета авторы документальной ленты поднимают проблему совершенствования учебно-воспитательной работы в вузах для подготовки высококвалифицированных специалистов, имеющих вкус к творчеству и занимающих активную гражданскую позицию.
