Особую жестокость нацисты проявляли к мирным жителям и пленным красноармейцам. В феврале 1943 года немцы закупорили больных и раненых солдат в 18 товарных вагонах, вывезли на Старо-Крымский тупик и заморозили. Вагоны были помечены знаком "череп" и надписью "Не подходить — зараза", чтобы помешать местным жителям оказать помощь.
