ولو لم تكن هذه العاطفة الفطرية موجودة، لكانت معدلات الطلاق أعلى بكثير؛ إذ يميل الرجل في أوقات الضيق أو الفتور إلى التنصل من بعض المسؤوليات، وعلى رأسها مسؤولية الأبناء، بينما الأم ترى في أولادها جزءًا من ذاتها، لا يمكن أن تفرّط فيه. ولهذا نجدها أكثر صبرًا وتمسكًا، وأكثر استعدادًا للتضحية حفاظًا على بيتها وأولادها.
