Everything you are yakking about is piffle and balderdash! 😡

Well, I have decided to reread one of my favourite books aptly entitled “The Russian Word’s Worth”. It’s basically a book about the Russian language, and it’s hilarious. The author probably didn’t plan for it, but it also contains a lot of vocabulary that might be interesting to us, English teachers and forever English learners. What’s best, actually, is the fact that the book has close equivalents in both languages! 😍

But back to the point. Here is a text that contains a lot of phrases that are somehow connected to talking nonsense and just plain blabbering.

How many can you find? I hope all of them))

In the small town of Meadowgrove, there was a well-known windbag named Harold. Harold had the gift of gab and could blab for hours about anything and everything. Most folks in town knew that his talk wasn't worth a plug nickel; it was all piffle and claptrap. Despite this, people often gathered around him just to shoot the breeze and listen to his endless yak.

One day, Harold decided to run for mayor. His campaign speeches were filled with doubletalk that didn't pack a wallop, but his charisma and endless chatter somehow captivated the crowd. People would listen to him, not because they believed his words, but because they found his windbag antics entertaining.

"He's just full of hot air," old Mrs. Thompson would say, shaking her head. "But he sure knows how to keep a crowd engaged."

Harold's campaign rallies became the talk of the town. Folks would gather, not to hear any substantial policies, but to enjoy the spectacle of his blabbering. In the end, Harold didn't win the election, but he certainly left a mark on Meadowgrove with his unique brand of claptrap and piffle.

Yours,

Yulia ❀

P.S. I was scrambling as to what to write about, but anything else seemed like shooting the breeze, so here I am, writing about yakking, lol 😅

P.P.S. Apparently, Harold can also rhyme!

Telegram | DID YOU KNOW?

Since January 2022, the SC has received a total of 47 complaints and enquiries on illegal investment schemes promoted through Telegram. These fraudulent schemes offer non-existent investment opportunities, promising very attractive and risk-free returns within a short span of time. They commonly offer unrealistic returns of as high as 1,000% within 24 hours or even within a few hours. Oh no. There’s a certain degree of myth-making around what exactly went on, so take everything that follows lightly. Telegram was originally launched as a side project by the Durov brothers, with Nikolai handling the coding and Pavel as CEO, while both were at VK. What distinguishes the app from competitors is its use of what's known as channels: Public or private feeds of photos and videos that can be set up by one person or an organization. The channels have become popular with on-the-ground journalists, aid workers and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who broadcasts on a Telegram channel. The channels can be followed by an unlimited number of people. Unlike Facebook, Twitter and other popular social networks, there is no advertising on Telegram and the flow of information is not driven by an algorithm. And while money initially moved into stocks in the morning, capital moved out of safe-haven assets. The price of the 10-year Treasury note fell Friday, sending its yield up to 2% from a March closing low of 1.73%. 'Wild West'
