زنان ایرانی دیر متوجه ابتلای‌ به سرطان پستان می‌شوند؛ اغلب در مرحله دوم بیماری،‌ زمانی که توده سرطانی بیش از دو سانتی‌متر است‌، یعنی اندازه یک گردو. معاینات ماهانه و سالانه‌شان را پشت گوش می‌اندازند، ماموگرافی بعد از ۴۰‌سالگی در اولویت‌شان نیست و این ناآگاهی منجر شده موارد ابتلا افزایش پیدا کند. زنان جوان بیشتری مبتلا به سرطان پستان می‌شوند؛ قبلا اگر مراجعه‌کننده‌ها بالای ۵۰ سال بودند، حالا سن‌شان کمتر شده است.
