📌 Freud argued—and this is why his thought was scandalous when it was first propagated in turn-of-the-century vienna—that sexuality was pervasive in human life and that attempt to abolish it or censor it resulted in perverse and bizarre forms of sexuality. So sexuality was not something that only appeared in grown-up people. It was there when an infant was born of us all the way through and you couldn't repress it. My view of religion is similar to Freud's view of sex. Religion is as ubiquitous in the human animal as sexuality is.
