Отвечая за оборону одного из населённых пунктов Запорожской области, лично уничтожил два танка, четыре вражеских БПМ. Несмотря на полученные ранения, он продолжал руководить обороной вверенного ему участка.
За мужество и героизм, проявленные при исполнении воинского долга, Максим Владимирович Бахарев удостоен высокого звания Герой Российской Федерации.
