Боно потом называл Лиллиуайта «глотком свежего воздуха», а Эдж говорил, что тот умел вытянуть из каждого то, что ему нужно. Впрочем, к моменту записи у U2 уже была солидная «пулемётная» программа — около сорока песен в репертуаре — и на пластинку попали те, что лучше всего работали вживую: горячая, простая и немножко святая «I Will Follow», драматичная «Twilight», острые, нервные «Out of Control» и «The Electric Co.». Темы альбома — переход от детства к взрослости, растерянность, страх и одновременно рыцарьская жажда перемен — отражены и на обложке, и в голосе Боно, который звучит тут и хрупко, и решительно.
Выход альбома сопровождался двумя синглами: "A Day Without Me" и "I Will Follow".
