محققان دانشگاه فناوری تالین در استونی کلاس جدیدی از پاهای رباتیک را توسعه داده‌اند که به‌طور قابل‌توجهی حرکت ربات‌ها را در زمین‌های نامناسب مانند گِل و برف بهبود می‌بخشد. این پاها به سگ‌های رباتیک امکان می‌دهد کارهای مختلفی مانند راه رفتن در طبیعت، کمک به کشاورزان و عملیات‌های نجات در جنگل و محیط‌های صعب‌العبور را انجام دهند. «سیمون گودون»، دانشجوی دکترای بیوروباتیک دانشگاه فناوری تالین، برای رفع این چالش، سُم‌هایی برای ربات‌ها پیشنهاد کرده که مزایای عمده‌ای دارند، به‌ویژه زمانی که ربات بخواهد روی گل راه برود. آزمایشات روی پای گوزن واقعی در شرایط آزمایشگاهی نشان داده است که آنها واقعاً در این کار تبحر دارند. سم‌های شکافته گوزن‌ها هنگام پاگذاشتن روی گل‌ولای منبسط و منقبض می‌شود و سطح تماس آن افزایش و کاهش می‌یابد. البته بزرگ‌ترین مزیت آنها این است که سم‌های شکافته بر نیروی مکش زمین گِلی غلبه می‌کند.
