《او[مهرداد] از ستاره دنباله‌داری که در زمان تولد و به تخت نشستن اش در آسمان دیده شد به عنوان تبلیغات خود استفاده کرد.او نقش یک دنباله دار درخشان را بر روی سکه های برنزی که در پونتوس در گردش بود گنجاند.به این ترتیب،سعی داشت بر این نکته تأکید کند که او پادشاه ناجی است که در اسناد پیشگویی ایرانیان ذکر شده است. زیرا مهرداد طبق قوانین ایران و از دید مردمان ساکن در نواحی آسیای صغیر یک ایرانی بود.》
