🏚These photos show the family of Aisha Ali from Nigeria whose home was destroyed in recent flooding, which the government claims was the deadliest in a decade. More than 600 people were killed, among them four of Aisha's children.
When the water began to flood their hut, Aisha went with her children on foot in search of safe ground. They moved along narrow roads full of water. Her brother was able to pick up the five children on his cart, while Aisha and three other kids continued walking. They had no idea they wouldn't meet again. At one point, the cart toppled over, and the children were in the water. Ali's brother was able to rescue only one girl. ‘It is all God's plan,’ says the woman.
While some people suffer from constant floods, others are exposed to extreme water shortages. Watch our documentary No Way Back: Water about the disruptions of the global ecological balance.
