This lab marks the first collaboration between Telegram and the supercomputing cluster Alem.ai in Kazakhstan. Durov announced it during his speech at the Digital Bridge 2025 forum in Astana.
According to Telegram’s founder, the new development merges blockchain and AI technologies. It will first appear in Telegram’s mini-app ecosystem.
Durov also reminded the audience that Kazakhstan was the location of Telegram’s first regional office:
“We are launching a joint project between Telegram and Kazakhstan’s supercomputing cluster, initiated by the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence. This technology will allow over a billion people to use AI functions confidentially, transparently, and efficiently. We hope Kazakhstan’s cluster becomes the first major provider of computing power for this network.”

You may recall that, back when Facebook started changing WhatsApp’s terms of service, a number of news outlets reported on, and even recommended, switching to Telegram. Pavel Durov even said that users should delete WhatsApp “unless you are cool with all of your photos and messages becoming public one day.” But Telegram can’t be described as a more-secure version of WhatsApp. These entities are reportedly operating nine Telegram channels with more than five million subscribers to whom they were making recommendations on selected listed scrips. Such recommendations induced the investors to deal in the said scrips, thereby creating artificial volume and price rise. The original Telegram channel has expanded into a web of accounts for different locations, including specific pages made for individual Russian cities. There's also an English-language website, which states it is owned by the people who run the Telegram channels. In the past, it was noticed that through bulk SMSes, investors were induced to invest in or purchase the stocks of certain listed companies.
