وسماه على أسم عشيقته (Silvain) ، وكان العرب ينطقون أسم القصر باللغة الفرنسية ويلوون لسانهم مثل الفرنسيين ، فكان كل من يحدثه يقول : «قصر سيلفان» ، ويعوج لسانه تشبها بالنصـ ارى الفرنسيين !!
فأمر "الظاهر بيبرس" بسجن وجلد كل من يقول قصر النبيلة (Silvain ) بــ لغة الفرنسيين ، وان يقتصر التحدث باللغات الأجنبية على المخاطبات الرسمية والأمور العلمية والعلاجية وما ينتفع به المسلم ، وأطلق عيه أسم (قصر العرب) إحتراما للغة العربية.
