العلامة المجاهد الشيخ حبيب الله السلفي رحمه الله أحد أعلام السلفيين أهل الحديث في ربوع باكستان وأفغانستان قتله الخوارج غدرا وظلما عام ١٩٩٦م داخل منزله وأمام بعض أولاده في بيشاور وهو خارجٌ للصلاة لمْ يتجرأ الخوارج مواجهته وقتْله إلا بعد اختبائهم خلف باب شقته لأنه كان مهابا شجاعا منقطيع النظير. له مناظرات وصولات شديدة وعجيبة مع أهل البدع من الديوبندية والصوفية والخوارج وبلغتْ دعوته المناطق النائية جدا في غابات البلاد وجبالها الشاهقة ومناطقها النائية تتعجب بعد ثلاثة عقود أنْ تذهب لهذه المناطق وتتفاجئ بالسلفيين الموحدين بها ولما تسألهم عن سبب هدايتهم يذكرون هذا الشيخ لما قدِمَ إليهم وأقام عندهم يدعوهم. وكان مدرسا في جامعة الشيخ جميل الرحمن رحمه الله في بيشاور وترأَّس الجامعة الأثرية ببشاور. وهو نسيب الشيخ شمس الأفغاني
