Tektite سنگی تشکیل شده طی برخورد شهاب سنگ به زمین!
این سنگ از قطعات سیاه، سبز، قهوه‌ای و خاکستری شیشه‌ی طبیعی تشکیل شده و با ویژگی‌های زیر شناخته می‌شود: ۱- ترکیب نسبتا یکنخوات ۲- مقدار بسیار اندک آب و سیالات ۳- نبود کریستال حتی در ابعاد میکروسکوپی ۴- حضور در محیط برخورد شهاب سنگ‌ها
ممکن این سنگ با شیشه آتشفشانی که با نام اُبسیدین شناخته می‌شود اشتباه گرفته شود، که تفاوت این دو سنگ در: ۱- تکتایت هیچ کانی مشخصی حتی در مقطع میکروسکوپی ندارد، برخلاف اُبسیدین ۲- نسبت‌های ایزوتوپی تکتایت به شیل و دیگر سنگ‌های رسوبی شباهت بیشتری دارد و در مقابل این نسبت‌ها اُبسیدین مشابه سنگ‌های آذرین است. ۳- در برخی تکتایت‌ها می‌توان کانی‌هایی که متحل ذوب بخشی شده و تحت تأثیر تنش ناگهانی قرار گرفتند را مشاهده کرد. با تشکر از : هومان سلیم زاده دانشجوی زمین شناسی دانشگاه تهران
