Бронзовий шолом гладіатора з Помпеї, I століття нашої ери

Знахідка була виявлена у школі гладіаторів (лудусі) разом з іншою амуніцією у 1834 році. Такий шолом був призначений для важкоозброєного бійця — гладіатора-мирміллона. Він дуже великий і важкий: висота – 44 см, вага – бл. 2,5 кг.

Оздоблений рельєфами під умовною назвою «Прославлення Риму». На них зображені римські боги і богині, оточені полоненими варварами, і навіть військові трофеї римлян.

Зверніть увагу на останнє фото: гребінь шолома порожнистий і призначений для кріплення плюмажу. Забрало складається з двох половинок і відкривається на зашморгах, як ворота, фіксуючись за допомогою засувів.
