ما معمولا آن درویان (Ann Druyan) رو به‌واسطه همسرش کارل سیگن می‌شناسیم. همون‌طور که کارل سیگن رو هم بیشتر به‌واسطهٔ یکی از نوشته‌های بسیار معروفش یعنی "نقطه آبی کمرنگ" می‌شناسیم (که البته متن بسیار مهمیه و داوکینز در نهایت سلیقه، این متن رو در کتاب Modern Science Writing به‌عنوان یکی از متون برگزیده علم مدرن گنجونده).
اما خود درویان هم نویسنده، تهیه‌کننده و کارگردان بزرگیه. مستند Cosmos رو ساخته و در دهه هفتاد هم در پروژه "پیام بین‌کهکشانی" ناسا در سمت Creative Director همکاری کرده.
همه این‌ها رو گفتم که بگم صحبت‌هاش رو دربارهٔ فقدان و همین‌طور عشق به "فرصت زیستن" ترجمه کردم و در روزنوشته گذاشتم:
